Where I am now
From the beaches of Donegal, to the cedars of Vancouver, landing in Munich by the mountains, I have enjoyed the life of an expat whilst developing professionally in user experience. My fascination for people and perception has always driven me towards user-centred roles, and my creative and inquisitive nature led me to exploring the world of UX in greater depth. Combining my work experience in customer service, content editing, and community engagement, with studies in UX/UI Design and Research, I have finally found the right match to continue growing and supporting people to solve problems, and have the best possible user experience with products and services, through enjoyable and proven design.
What I’ve done so far
As a call centre market researcher for national surveys, I listened, gathered and interpreted real valuable human insights.
As a door-to-door salesperson for charities, I practiced empathy and understanding.
As a recruiter for commission-based roles, I communicated effectively with candidates to secure interest and retention.
As an office manager for a Chiropractic centre, I built relationships with clients as their first point of contact.
As a customer service representative for a commercial wallcovering distributor, I collaborated with stakeholders to advocate for the customer and their needs and find best possible solutions.
As a retail assistant for luxury products, I identified how to appeal to customers.
As a barperson for a large superpub, I observed human behaviour and recognised patterns.
As a social media representative for a non-profit community-based organisation, I created content to enable community growth and engagement.
As a community experience manager for a co-working company, I emphasised critical member pain-points to address failures.
As a UX Researcher for a B2B SaaS startup, I streamlined research operations in an ever-changing environment.
As a UX Professional, I do all of the above, and more.
How I got here
Having made a transition from a career of mainly customer-facing roles into UX, I have carried one personal motto with me throughout; help others help themselves. Whenever I am confused about the path I'm on, this motto always brings me back to where I really want to focus my efforts and helps me to reorganise how I move forward. I strive to work on projects that centre around informing humans how they can help themselves and make decisions that will ultimately contribute to improving their lives in the long or short-term. I have observed first-hand how people interact with products and services and look forward to the next challenge, be it supporting the user experience in sustainable mobility, in the design of smart living practices such as upcycling and responsible use of products, in criminal justice systems, in mental health care services and beyond.
